Outsourcing Company vs Business Partner. Advice needed

Hi

I represent a small team of software and web developers; our main speciality is a software for ePOS terminals and its integration with customers’ existing eCommerce solutions. During the last year I was able to manage the team, generate sales, assemble the hardware and take care of customers by myself. However, it is clear now that I have reached my limit and need to take it to another level. Thus I am looking to outsource sales in any way that would allow me to focus entirely on software development.

I came up with two options
  1. To have a Business Partner that would deal with all the sales and marketing
  2. To outsource sales to another company

In the past I had a business with a friend in my home country (Latvia), but absolutely have no idea how to find a partner here. Moreover, I have never outsourced sales to another company and not sure how it is working. I tried to Google on this but the info I got is very broad with a lack of details.

This is my first business in the UK and I am not sure about the best option, so any advice would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Aram.

Hi Aram,

I think if you're going into business with someone then you need to be able to trust them and know you can rely on them. Also you'll want to set everything out in a contract such as expectations, profit share etc.

If it's sales you're looking for then why not try and hire a commission only sales team? So they only get paid when they land a sale.

From the sounds of it you want to focus entirely on the software side of the company rather than the business side. So you'd probably be best looking for a business partner as even if you outsourced the sales you'd still need to keep informed of their performance so you can run the company.
