Outgoing SMS Integration

I am working with a small local private hire taxi company. They have a requirement to send, via their booking/despatch system, up to about 50,000 SMS messages each month. Their current system relies on a UK network provider which although agreeing to offer "unlimited" texts, is now complaining of breaches of their "fair use" policy.

Can anyone recommend an alternative bulk text supplier/system, with an API, that may prove cheaper than the alternatives being offered from the major networks? With increasing competition in this sector, rising costs and shrinking margins for taxi drivers & operators, every penny saved can make a difference.
