Optimising for Bing

i've recently been looking into how to optimse for bing and was surprised to find how much it actually differs from google - many of my sites are positioned completely different for the same keywords!

from what i've seen so far, bing seems to regard on-page content much more highly, so keyword density is actually relevant. and from performing a few searches it looks like keywords in the domain are VERY important. i've also read that domain age is highly regarded.

other than that there is little info kicking around on optimising for Bing, i wondered if anybody here could add to this?

Completely agree with all of that.

Its almost like Bing is an engine from the good old days.

I do think it agrees with google in some ways though, in the way of what it chooses to index. Yahoo seems to be out on a limb with regard to this.

They all have their good points...... I do seem to (slightly inadvertently) be achieving decent Bing positions by optimising for the other two, not quite fully figured Bing out 100% yet but it seems to like what I am doing.

tbh i only really took notice of my searches in bing last week (it's taken me a while to latch on, granted) and i was in shock. it was almost matching search terms with domain names, and ordering them by that, which i thought was shockingly bad!

so yea, i get the feeling it returns results like google did in 2001!

Certainly elements of that yes. In some ways this is good though imo. I do tip Bing for a larger slice of the action in years to come with their TV campaigns etc.

I would like to see this thread kept alive, its relatively new to most people, it would be good to 'nail it' as a group with this one.

yep, that was the reason i started it so that we could build some sort of lengthly resource for bing optimisation. as i said, i struggled to find valuable info ealier.
