Opening Hours

As you may know, I'm in the process of setting up a clothing unit. As it's not in the middle of the town centre, I don't have to stick to conventional opening times. The unit itself is situated just off a business park full of call centres so I want to catch people when they finish work or before they go etc. I also will have the help of my dad but he's not tied so can come and go when he pleases. I also have 2 kids that I need to spend time with.

Originally I thought about opening the shop from 9.30am to 3.30pm Mon-Fri and 9.30am to 1.30pm on a Sat but as the business is going to take a lot of expense setting it up, I really need to open it a much as possible. Normally when I'm home I work most of the time anyway but can obviously take a break whenever I want and go and play with the kids for an hour then go back to work etc. I also spoke to someone who used to own a clothing unit as well and she said she was open something like 9 till 6 Mon-Sun and found it was busy at all times.

So I'm in a pickle as to what hours I should have it open. I'm now leaning towards to 9.30am to 7.30pm Mon-Fri, 9.30am to 4.00pm Sat and 10am to 2.00pm Sun. I could do this initially and if I find that a certain time is quiet then I can reduce those hours.

I don't like early mornings but then I need to be there at a decent time to make sure I'm there when the postie and couriers come.

So what do you reckon? Do you think it's a good idea to open for a lot of hours and then see how busy certain times of the day are in a couple of months and then reduce the hours if necessary?

I'm not frightened of a but of hard work as long is it makes me money :)

I originally was going to start low and work more hours if needed but feel I should do it the other way around. That way hopefully it means more money coming in which will pay for all of the display equipment etc that I have had to fork out on and means if I find that for 5 or 6 weeks running that no-one visits after 5pm on a Wednesday, for example, then I can close at 5pm.
