Hi all!
I'm thinking of opening a handmade crafts shop. I can see there are quite a few people here involved in this business area.
I’ll be opening the shop in Mallorca, Spain where I’ve moved recently after living in UK. I know it’s a different geographic market, but there are common essentials for every business no matter where it’s located. Moreover, as we all know it’s highly tourist oriented market and almost half of the visitors are British (besides the many British expats living in the island). Also, I think that the consumer habits nowadays are becoming more globalized.
I have a vast experience in different business area. However, I love arts and crafts and always wanted to run business related to it … and that’s pretty much all I have as an experience in the field
Basically my idea is to offer nice and unique handmade crafts from all over the world (jewellery, bags, accessories, decoration, art pieces, etc…), trying to stay away from the generic made in China souvenirs. I already found several suppliers and will continue doing extensive research.
I hope I can get some advice on specifics of opening and running such shop as particular client group to target, adequate price range, goods that may be in high demand, etc… Actually any info or opinion on the subject you’ll be willing to share will be greatly appreciated. Any recommendations for reliable wholesalers will be of course welcomed.
I know it may seem odd that someone with almost no basic knowledge in such sophisticated business is asking for advice on how to do it, but anyone has had his/her starting point, right?
