The opencart default theme doesn't match my main website so I'm thinking of tackling this step by step - first I want to add a header and navbar at the top (aside from the store navbar), does anyone know how to do this?

Hi member.

Unless you're very comfortable editing PHP and CSS files and also familar with MVC (model, view, controller) file structure I'd leave it to someone who is.

I've themed a few Opencart systems and I'd say it would be too much for a novice to undertake.

I have experience of working with all of that but I'm not a pro. I can take instructions. I can also fiddle around. But Opencart seems very different, I feel if I need to just add a code or css somewhere in the file I'll be fine providing someone informs me how to do it.

It is a bit more than telling you what to do. It's a little more involved than that, your basically going to have to rip the default theme apart and make changes to all the relevant files. Some of the files you will edit can break the whole system if you delete something by mistake.

Oh man. Why does it have to be so complicated. This is one cart I actually liked without any hassle but now the theme side of it is harsh. Are there any ready-available themes for opencart (free) which have a header and navbar at the top, with the main body and side column? Then I can just replace the image.

So there's no way of instructions e.g. step 1, step 2, step 3?

Unless there is but it is tooo long.

We have extensive experience of OpenCart themes and templates and have operated opencarttemplates.com for over 2 years. Themes are not free but extremely well priced. Any of them can be further customised to your needs for little extra outlay or a bespoke design can be commissioned. We have clients using our themes in all main continents and we try to offer unrivalled support in helping them to achieve what they want, even if their template only cost $10!

I'd be very happy to chat about your requirements further.

Kind regards

I understand. I actually was a paid member of UKBF for a year and never found the time to really use it! Happened upon your post via Twitter and it caught my attention as I'd just spent half of today working on some template revisions for the latest version of OpenCart. You can see a variety of examples at the template site I mentioned. I can PM you some urls of stores I've done bespoke designs for if you wish. Also, if you want to get into trying things yourself there is a (very) basic guide on the OpenCart Wiki (just google it - I can't give you the link until I've made 15 posts apparently!)
