Online shopping trends

Do any of you guys know of any articles of online shopping trends at all. I'd like to know what days shoppers tend to buy online. We have days which are more popular than others (Mondays, Tuesdays). Is there a pattern for this sort of thing or does this vary from sector to sector, month to month. What's your experiences with this??

I've only been operating since the beginning of the year, however I ran some mid-year metrics and found out quite a few interesting order trends, namely: (number of orders processed)

• Days of the month = 1-5th & 26-30th (i.e. 1st and last weeks)
• Days of the week = Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat (descending)
• Order times during day = 3pm-7pm & 9pm-12am
• Men where spending around nearly treble more than women (p/order)

These really helped out with my marketing approach and CPC advertising.

Thanks for your feedback. It actually seems quite simular in many ways.
However, Mondays are busy for us, and lunchtimes are always busy, just when I go to sit down and take a break.

It's interesting from a CPC marketing point of view, do you plug the site more through the quiet times or plug the site more when you know people are looking for your products :|

I'd like to get other peoples feedback to see how consistent our results are with theirs

CPC took a couple of months to optimise, but I now have a steady program in place which runs throughout the year. The slow months for me have been May - July, and during these times I really pushed the email marketing and offline promotion side of things, whilst also encouraging repeat sales (from existing customers) through offers etc.

I'd also like to see how this differs across the board though.

That's exactly how we find it. A lot of people tend to have computers at work so buy begining of the week. I've always found this odd why they don't just buy at home over the weekend. Even the evenings are rather quiet, We really notice this on our site.

I'm working for the first global trade portal in the world (Dubli). I know we can't compare a trade portal with an online shop that has only a few products to sell. But I know from various shop owners here in Denmark, that a lot of orders comes in on Saturdays and Sundays (which will make Monday and Tuesday a lot more hectic). So yes - those days ARE more hectic (IMO). Now they're even more busy, as they have opened up a shop on our portal, which has given them 500.000+ potential customers

Just goes to show how different industries work.

Our stats for the above are:
Days of the month = haven't calculated
Days of the week = Fri, Sun, Sat, Thurs, Mon Tues, Wed, (descending)
Order times during day = 9pm-12am, 6pm-9pm, 3pm-6pm, 12noon-3pm.
Women spend more than men

The point I'm trying to make is that the patterns are sector by sector.

It will differ for each section and I find that one Wednesday could be the quietest for me one week and then the busiest the next week. We mainly sell sunglasses but sell them at times when no-one would think we would sell them - all of the time! Even in the middle of Winter we don't go a week without selling at least a few pairs!
Busiest times for us tend to be Mondays and Tuesdays whereas the quietest would be Wednesday and Thursday.

I find Mondays very manic! I am selling quite a bit to the states too at the moment so there seems to be no let up on monday!
I also have found the first week and the last week very busy although I think the postal strike will slow things down, at least it will give me time to add some new stock to the site!

 

First and last weeks of the month are always a busy time because it coincides with most peoples pay days.

I don't find any particular trend days wise, although Mondays tend to be busy with people planning what to wear for a night out at the weekend.
