Online sales - xmas increase?

Does anyone know what sort of increase for online sales there are at xmas.
I am trying to do some estimate for our ebay shop so I am unsure as to whether it will be different for ebay in comparison to the .com shops, my presumption is that it will be pretty similar.
Thanks in advance
Dave

It's going to depend on the line of business you're in, the product demographic you're targetting, and the countries you're exposed to.

We actually see a decrease in Virtual Server orders around a week before xMas (who wants hosting around then!) but a huge increase straight after xMas (everyone wanting to share pictures / videos / files with family!) which means the month always ends UP on the month previous, but then we pretty much trend that way all year anyway.

As Jamie said, it is going to depend on your target market and products.

I know of some industries where sales fall by as much as 75% and others where they increase by upto 500% (where the majority of yearly sales are in themonths leading upto Christmas).

I'm guessing you're in one of those industries that goes up by 500% in the fetive period :)

Most of the e-tailers are reporting strong sales over the holiday period - but as others have said it depends on your products. Seasonal influences are the main drivers of our sales - winter is all about skiwear, summer it's wetsuits and sun protection clothing! (Someone called this the 'feast & famine' effect.)
If you can adapt or create products to the holidays then you can capitalise on consumer interest around key events like Valentines, Mother's Day etc.
incidentally - one of my clients sells 75% of their products in the week before Xmas!
