Hi
I'm certain others will have this issue and in all honesty its frustrating to say the least.
We use Sage pay for our online transactions and due to a few charge backs from fraudulent transactions we decided in certain instances to ask the customer to ring their bank to confirm the authorization code so we could make sure it matched ours, takes a bit more time but issue sorted you would think, as you may know issue far from sorted, we've had a charge back on a transaction we asked the customer to check the authorization code, both matched and the fraudster must have got through the banks security so it must be their responsibility - right - well oh no wrong barclaycard and the banks still won't stand by it
Does taking online transactions have fool proof method for customer not present transactions.
If not we all need to get together and force the banks to find a method, more and more people do online or over the phone transactions so we need to push for a safe solution, they all charge but none take and responsibility and we need to change things
sorry for the rant - hopefully someone can help
sorry if this has been asked and resolved in a previous tread

Unfortunately, there is no way to 100% guarantee against fraud with any transaction, especially when it is MOTO (Mail Order / Telephone Order) CNP. You can only take precautions to protect yourself as much as possible and be wary of any suspicious activity. You Payment Service Provider / Acquiring Bank should be able to offer some help and advice on combatting/reducing online fraud/chargebacks. They will also be able to advise you when liability shift applies for 3D Secure.

WE ask for the 6 digit confirmation number like you do, its as secure as we can get, and so far we haven't had issues, as far as i can see, there is no other way to do it

both matched and the fraudster must have got through the banks security so it must be their responsibility

or you just have a scumbag customer who knows how to play the system.

Ensure you have 3D secure enabled. If it's a high value, high risk item, only ship to the billing address and ensure you get a signature on delivery.
Sagepay also have 3rd Man fraud score which is useful. If it looks suspect or 3rd Man recommends declining, then do so.

not all credit card suppliers / banks use the 3D Secure, we've always used it, Marbles is one that doesn't, so it works to a certain extent online but can't be used at all over the phone and we take both phone and online payments via Sagepay

So far as online payments are concerned, I'm not aware that banks or particular card issuers can opt out of it. The 3DS system is actually the systems operated by the card schemes MasterCard and Visa. I think that any cards carrying their branding is actually covered by 3DS.
