Hi,

I'm interesting in hearing the best places to submit your press releases online. PR Web and Business Wire are probably the most popular sites I've come across but would be great to hear about some more online places, free or paid, where you can get noticed!

It may be obvious but you should not restrict your press releases to 'online' sources. Yes, make contact via the web sure, but what about all the print and broadcast media too? At the very leats you should begin with your local radio/tv channels and any relevant industry publications (printed as well as online!).

Good luck

Hi,

Whether its online, in newspapers, on radio & TV or in magazines, much depends on what you are actually trying to achieve with your Press Releases.

Is it brand awareness? (We are marvellous at....)
Is it to help sell a product? (We have lots of these in different colours..)
Is it important information? (10 tips on how to build a submarine...)
Is it reputation building? (New CEO with excellent track record....)

Once you've decided that, you can more easily select the best avenue to 'advertise' or 'publicise' your message and the recipients you are aiming at.

For simply alerting journalists to something, Response Resource is fairly cheap and effective (less than £100 a go).
If you want longer-term publicity/awareness, then maybe we can help.

We run expertsources.co.uk which is an online directory of experts and specialists available to the media. Experts register with us to attract the attention of journalists covering news and current affairs and writing features so that can be quoted in newspapers and interviewed on radio & TV.

If we can help in this regard, please give us a call on 01462 633884

Dan,

Welcome to Expertsources.

You have registered as a media member which allows you to search for & find experts in any subject available for comment & opinion.

If you wish to be found by the media, you should also register as an Expert. There are 2 levels of membership - Standard (£30 a year) and Executive (£50). Standard allows up to 24 keywords - Executive allows up to 200 keywords which you can add to/change whenever you wish (all subscriptions inclusive of VAT).

If you have any queries, please call us on 01462 633884

Boho,

Hi, thanks for posting.

You're right about Response Resource - in our experience it is quite effective on a short-term basis i.e. for the several days surrounding your 'event' or 'comment' about a current issue.

But there's also the problem that many journalists are not keen on being fed information/stories this way - prefering to go their own way.

For both reasons above, we have created Expertsources.co.uk.
1. We promote experts available to the media all year round (not just on 'special occassions' (
2. We don't push stories/angles at journalists - prefering to say to journalists: whatever story YOU are doing (news, current affairs, features, sport) you will find several experts for quotes & interviews via Expertsources.

Which all works very well with experts and expertt organisations very pleased with the increase in media calls which now come their way.

And if the cost is important to you: we're pleased to say that the Expertsources ANNUAL subscription is roughly the same as posting just one release on Response Resource.

That sounds like an excellent resource, so I'll bear that in mind :)
I've had a superb response rate from Response Source to date and I find that they have a wide range of freelance journo's which has so far been to my advantage as they seem to work that little bit harder, but I'm not one to ignore any valid and cost effective PR avenue.

Do you find you have many fashion journo's? The big problem I've found so far with the different press release services (other than Response Source) is that there isn't many of the kinds of journo's I actually need to get under the nose of. This has meant that I also have had to contact them individually separately - which can be time consuming.

I have used prweb before with no results. The best way for us has been by emailing the magazines we think would be interested in featuring our products. So far the results have been pretty good.

However I am interested in what Steve and Boho have mentioned. Any more information on if the services will be of use to an ecommerce company?

By ecommerce doe you mean you are an ecommerce company or you are an ecommerce shop? I am an online only retailer so from me that has to be a yes, but equally it could work just as well for anyone, if you are an ecommerce provider then there is a whole stream on there for sending your release to IT based journalists. With Source Wire/Response Source you have to just tick the boxes of the category areas you want to be targeted. The important thing is writing a good press release which has something of interest, if don't have that then you won't get results.

It just goes to however many journalists they have registered on their books that have registered that category as their interest. You can find out who the journalists are if you pay for the more expensive more detailed serviced with them. I've never bothered with that myself though. The very first press release I sent out via then netted me responses from Daily Mail and 2 magazines within the first 3 days. Other ones I've sent I've had a response from interested journalists within a matter of days. It just depends what the usp of your press release is and if it's of interest to someone and they can do something with it or not.

I was fortunate with the first press release as I was launching a unique, fairly traded range of jewellery from one of my designers, part of which was being made by men and women who had lost their businesses in the Tsunami and so I had (well still have, as they haven't gone anywhere else) men who were previously mechanics and who have now retrained and make tiaras, all using local & eco friendly components. The unique story fitted with the eco/fair trade line the Daily Mail were taking at the time.
