Hello,

I enjoy learning about new things that can enhance business, especially subjects where I can achieve real results if I put my mind to it!

I'm currently enjoying researching SEO, SMO, PPC and Content Marketing, I've only scratched the surface up to now but have already gained a brilliant insight of which I aim to develop.

I'm hoping to soon test my skills and undertake some organic SEO on a dormant site I have that doesn't yet rank well.

Would any of you professionals here have any tips that you would be kind enough to share with me? Some that have worked for you recently that I may not yet know about?

One thing I've realised is that many professionals, especially when comparing the UK to the US all have different techniques and practices they like to follow.

Thanks in advance.

Spend the time up front in creating compelling content on the page. Solve a problem for someone, don't try to shove a catalog in their face.

Now go back and rewrite the content without keyword stuffing it, explaining it to me as if I'm five. Connect the dots between what the site is about and the pain point the visitor is experiencing so that they can't possibly miss out on the "what's in it for me" point of the page/site.

A website can be a glossy brochure that people glance over as they consider something, or it can be a series of solutions to all their problems, or both. Some of the most profitable sites I've seen launched on a shoestring are a combination of those things, using the latter to bring people to the site and the former to funnel them into opening their wallets.

Finally, think about whether you want to be thought of as okay, noteworthy, brilliant or omfg indispensable. Now, when you're planning and writing the content, consider writing 1 page of brilliant or better over 10 or 20 pages of okay. No one remembers okay. No one bookmarks it, socially shares it, or has a lasting impression so they know where to return for more.

Be remarkable by sharing remarkable posts/pages. Aim for omfg indispensable and feel good about anything that turns out brilliant or better.

More basically though, know what key search terms you are optimising it for, and make sure they are used in the title tags, h1 tags and naturally in the content. I these are basics, but along with great content that is genuinely interesting for human readers, the keywords do need to be in there properly, but not stuffed.

the quality of your content is very important also as it will help you to get links back to it.

My other basics tip is to subscribe to a good Serp tracking tool, like serp fox. You can see your rank position on a graph over time, and you will be able to spot changes to your position and understand what you did that worked or did not work.

The other important thing is your Google webmaster account, and submitting a site map through it.

Hope this is not too basic, but these are the starting points.

Good luck

Keep the content useful, readable and easy-to-understand. When it comes to keywords, make sure you add them to H1, H2, H3 header, page title and in the URL. If you are using WordPress, use the All-in-one-SEO pack. As for the main body of the text, keeping the writing simple and aimed towards a human audience.

Also get a google analytics account (which is free btw) to measure how your website is doing and try building your online presence through guest blogging and taking part in forums for your niche market.

Also, try reading up on off-site SEO as well. On-site SEO is mainly about the content/code on your website.

Some tips for link building:
1. Resource page link building: Where else can you find pages online that exist JUST to link out to excellent resources.
2. Infographics: Not the beast they once were, but when done right, they work like a charm.
3. (Smart) guest posting: Don't give up on this strategy just yet. When done right, you can still get fantastic, niche-relevant links from guest posting.
4. Content creation + social amplification - consistently producing useful, interesting stuff that has a clear audience on social media who'd help amplify it (because it serves them in some way), is a great strategy that yields on-going returns month after month. It's a flywheel in that it's hard to turn those first few times, but gets easier and easier with time.
5. Thought leadership + bios & interviews - thought leaders in any field earn links simply through their day to day activities, e.g. speaking at events, being asked to contribute to interviews, going on podcasts, doing online hangouts, etc.
6. Email (a very powerful tool for a link builders arsenal).
7. Broken link building
8.Expert roundup link building - This is a little cheeky but it works a dream…
