Online Accountants

So, I'm considering using an online accountant instead of a local outfit here in Glasgow.

I've been burned by the accountant who originally incorporated the company last year and need someone responsive over email/phone and willing to use online accounting software such as KashFlow.

Should I keep hunting for someone local or venture down a new path? How have your experiences been?

Thanks

Scott

I was given a false representation of the company which resulted in terrible response times or not even replying to queries via email, not returning calls, sloppy practices, incorrect information given, all this just left me in a constant state of worry so thought it best to end the relationship for both of our sanities.

I guess I'm just looking for someone who will keep me compliant and answer an email within a reasonable time frame or at least let me know when they'll get round to it! I assume I'm not asking for much.. :)

Edit: So if anyone knows anyone around the Glasgow area.. chip in!

Scott you certainly have plenty of choice.

I run an online practice and for those that are happy to work online (and not all are) it does work well.

It really is personal preference.

Scott I don't think we have any accountants on the forum from Scotland, but if you want to find a local accountant and no one gives you a personal recommendation the various accountancy bodies generally have lists you can look at. My primary professional body is the ACCA you can find an ACCA firm here.

If you are a Kashflow user do they not have a directory of accountants who support it, I registered with them a while back but only have 1 client on Kashflow now, but sure there is a search facility on the Kashflow site.

You have clearly had a bad experience with first guy but surely Glasgow must have plenty of decent accountants, have you asked your bank manager or other business associates for a referral. With regards online v local, both should do the same job with equal quality, you are basically trading personal contact for a lower price. It just depends whats important for you.

I still like face to face meetings in early days to get things set up correctly then move to more phone and email support once things are running correctly.

What you should also consider with a local accountant is he could maybe introduce you to some of his clients who would have a need for your services and give you additional business.
