We usually just sell to the UK, but have been asked to quote for about £4k's worth of goods from a company in germany. (Not that unusual, we used to sell to companies in the EU before brexit).

If we wanted to go ahead with this what paperwork would be need and what costs (duties/taxes) might be applied, and would we pay those in advance or the customer pay them on receipt?

    Hi

    There isn’t a single answer.
How are the goods going to be shipped? Eg courier / road freight , airfreight etc. as this will impact on requirements and costs
who is going to import into Germany? It’s nearly impossible if you are not EU resident.
Who is paying for customs clearance? These services are usually charged for both on export and the import .
There will be import VAT and possibly import duty into Germany . Import duty depends on the goods and where they were manufactured. If they are UK manufactured they may be duty free but only if they qualify as uk origin according to the rules of the trade agreement. You also need to provide the correct statement on origin.

again what paperwork is required will depend on the goods . it may be a invoice and packing list is all that’s needed but some goods such as food need additional documentation.
