At the moment I back up using Clunk Click, but I'm looking for an alternative. There's an outfit called Carbonite who offer uncapped backups for about $US50 per annum. Has anyone had any experience of them, or any other suggestions? Obviously security and reliability are key issues.

mike,

i use carbonite and don't have any issues with it. It runs in the background without "disturbing" what you are doing.

The initial back up takes some time, but then it only backs up incrementally so it takes no time at all.

I haven't tried to to a recovery yet, so can't comment on how well that works, but I did do quite a bit of research before buying Carbonite and it generally rated quite highly across the board

Hope that helps

Ever since I had a serious crash - I discovered the real problem is getting all of the applications back - not the data which is easy.

Since then I have been using "acronis trueimage", the benefit of which is you are creating a BOOTABLE backup, on a second disk... ( I use a partition on a western digital 500G external)

I've been using Mozy for a year or so now. I forget how much it was but I think it was something like $55 (so about £45 or so) for a year. Keeps a continual backup, encrypted, offline. Took an age for the initial back-up to run but from then on nice and fast.

And as above, I also use Acronis for a daily on-site backup to a second hard drive as well as Mozy.
