Old Magazines

Hi

Does anyone know where and who from you can buy out of date/non sold magazines? e.g. buy copies of July's 'OK' magazine in August.

I've heard this is direct from publishers but does anybody know alternatives or one place i.e Supermarket chain that would sell many titles from multiple publishers?

Thanks in advance.

As I understand it, they return them or the front page for a refund... not sure whether it is complete refund or not and not sure what the deal is with the front page thing but I would contact the publishers and ask them. If they are being weird about it, just say you are a student researching information for a paper your writing, always used to work for me ;)

When I was as student I worked for menzies which distributes newspapers and magazines for publishers. One of my tasks involved scanning all the returns, removing the free promotional items and then throwing the unused magazines in a bin to be taken away for recycling.

If people wanted back copies then they were advised to contact the publisher direct.

if you say you will take the old magazines and recycle them then you will be doing them a service that they will be paying for ?

if you collect them and recycle what you dont need .. every one is a winner

Might be hard with the quantities I'm thinking of/planning on so would need a big link up in place to start with e.g. Sainsbury's or WHsmith or publisher direct. From the good answers that have come in, still not sure what is the best route... retailers or publishers?! :|

call up people like Morrison and ask to speck to the recycling department and ask them what they do with old issues?

i think a lot of large companies do send old copies to 3rd world countries and hospitals ??

good luck

There are stands in our local town markets which sell the 'old' magazines you describe - unsold copies of all kinds of titles like Cosmsopolitan, Homes & Gardens, children's magazines, all the things you'd find in the newsagent's basically, and even esoteric art and architecture titles with cover prices into the £10-£20 range. Most are only a few months old and the usual price is £1 each. So there must be a "buying channel" there somewhere, direct to the fulfillment house probably.
