As has been said, an initial saving may be more expensive overall for a couple of reasons. A. You might need to hire someone else if your 'offshore' writer falls below standard and B. Any copy you use that falls below standard may (and most likely will) result in less sales conversions.

What is your budget? You would be surprised what people in the UK will work for these days...

Thinking about it I think the points you have made are completely valid. I guess copywriting is something that can't be easily forced if the offshore guys don't understand the UK tone of voice. Can anyone recommend any C-H-E-A-P UK based copywriters who can write ecommerce product descriptions in bulk?

Again that depends on your budget and the quantities involved. If you would prefer not to discuss this openly then please PM me an outline of your requirements and your budget and I will be able to let you know of any suitable contacts.

It's all about the return on investment.

Hire someone cheap and they may cost little initially, but you're likely to end up with a permanently poor sales conversion rate.

If you hire someone good, they may cost, say, three times more, but you could end up with a permanent sales conversion rate which is double or even triple the figure achieved with the cheaper copywriter. That's two or three times more customers out of all your visitors. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen this happen (yes, even two or three times more customers).

What would that equate to in your business over a period of a few years? Thousands? Tens of thousands? More?

The product description is the only thing (bar an image) which will persuade a visitor that your product is the right one for them, so it's very important that it's spot on. If you try to cut that, then you'll almost certainly cut all your future profits along with it.
