Hi,

Im looking at a new business venture which will involve alot of B2B selling, One method I would like to try is offline mail shots (remember the white envelope kind of mail we use to get back in the 90's lol)

Does anyone still do this regurarly? Any tips or secrets would be great.

Cheers!

We've just done our first mail shot of this kind and have been very pleased with the success we've had.

We sent an A5 colour both sides postcard to our stockists and those contacts who have expressed an interst in stocking our products but have yet to do so.

We had our 1st call within an hour of the mail landing on the doorstep from someone who wnated to place their 1st order with us and we've had a number of other orders directly attributable to the mail shot, plus there is the less tangible, but still real, of reminding others of us.

We used docmail it cost us 33p (ex VAT) for each (A5) postcard - including printing & posting, was pretty simple to set up and produce the card: just follow their online instructions. There is no minimum order (so I sent 1 to myself 1st, just to check the quality etc.) I think the key is is the quality of the mailing list.

Here's a couple of pics of what it looked like on our doorstep:

We'll definately be doing more mailshots in the future!

p.s The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that this was sent 1st class - this was my trial. Sent them out to our contacts 2nd class, sent on Thursday, arrived on Saturday.

I think we sent out about 450, costing us about £145 - which is a similar price we would pay for a quarter page ad in a trade magazine.

We've definately had more than 1 order from it: don't have the figures in front of me, but we've had 4 orders from customers who have not ordered from us before or who have not ordered in the last 12 months or so who have specifically mentioned receiving the card, plus some re-orders from current stockists who menttione the card (of course, they may have re-ordered anyway) , plus a few more orders/interest that may well be by coincidence, but are probably because of our postcard. Each order is worth about £100 - £200.

However, I must stress, that all the contacts we sent to have either ordered from us or been in contact with us before.
