Hey guys,

Has anyone ever used an interior design company to decorate and create space within an office space? If so, how much would say they charge roughly? We have an open space office with 2 floors including a reception and staff kitchen in the back. We want the top floor to be used as a studio so not much interior design there other than some space partitions for changing rooms and make up area etc.The ground floor is the bit that needs doing for at least 6 people for now. We have tried to get in touch with commerical designers but they want to come through and look at the place first then give us a quote....but we need to draw up a realistic budget to approach designers with so we are not meeting several companies only to turn them down. If that makes sense. What would be the most realistic budget to work with on a project like this if anyone has ever done it? Is something like £10,000 too much or too little for work space, partitions for a board room and two back offices? Plus the furnishings. We are supplying our own IT.

You are really talking about a specialist building fit-out company and not an interior design company. They will have to hire an interior designer add their percentage to their fee and charge you for the materials and labour on top of that. Why not hire your own interior designer and get the work done by a small builder and painter-decorator. It will probably cost less that way.

I was looking at an interior designer to come in and decorate but then some claim they can do a fit out as they have contractors they work with. I am a bit weary of hiring an independent builder/decorator unless I did an extensive background check and a minimum of 15 references as I have seen too many horror shows left behind by builders.
Would you be able to recommend a realistic amount to put aside as a budget for this kind of project?
