no vat number on vat receipt

I have a large purchase for some camera equipment, i supplied my vat number when buying online as a business customer and was told the items would arrive with a vat receipt. I must admit i didn't take much notice of the invoice/receipt when it arrived but I'm now just calculating vat and although it doesn't actually say invoice on this receipt it shows vat separately, the only trouble is there is no vat number. I have found the vat number for the company online and checked it. If i just write this on the receipt will that be ok to reclaim the vat?

If it is a large purchase, I would email the company asking for their VAT number so that I had it in writing.

Not a proper VAT invoice without date, rate and VAT number but no need for serious concern just so long as the VAT number shows as valid on ---
