Just read that Google are planning on a major tweak of their search algorithms and figured this be interesting for you SEO types out there. You can see the new search system here:
http://www2.sandbox.google.com

Not sure how much is media hype but the claims going around are its real time search engine, so this could impact on SEO. At the moment Google are claiming no changes will occur to the results it’s just produces search results faster and indexes pages quickly.

Google appears to be making a step further towards authority sites and away from smaller independent sites. I think this is because they want to split the web compeltely into generic search and local search. Google tried to buy yellow pages a long time ago, I think the Google intention is to TOTALLY OWN local business search.

We have to accept that a lot of what Google does is motivated by anti spam reasons so its tricky to put the blame entirely at their feet.

The fact is that a lot of people are making a lot of quite sophisticated spam sites these days and Google has to stay ahead of the game if it is to continue to serve up quality results.

Just remember that the current test box is centred on G.com and so it will be hard to factor in any differences in the UK version, I have seen both positive and one or two negative movements with clients who have an international profile which is mainly at the corporate (in theory authoratative) end of the scale.
