Hi guys,

I started a new site, considering going into affiliate marketing but I had a couple of questions

If I was to start making money I know I would have to pay tax etc. That's fine but I am wondering if I actually need to register my business also?

Also I am currently only on Wordpress due to costs, but is it worth paying for a .com/.co.uk?

Thanks

Hi,

I am already getting a fair amount of traffic, but how much more am I likely to get just by registering a domain to .com/.co.uk?

Also as an affiliate marketer, do I just need to register and pay my own Tax and NI to HMRC or do I need to register a business on companies house?

Thanks

It's worth getting both .com and co.uk variants - then redirect one of them to the other.

And, if you're using WordPress.com it's worth switching to the self-hosted (Wordpress.org) variant.

And your existing site can be appropriately redirected.

In addition to registering with HMRC as self-employed, it's worth considering forming a ltd company - it's simple and has tax and other advantages which usually outweigh the admin costs.

You'll need to register as self-employed. It might be worth getting an accountant to help you out.

Wordpress.com is not great for a affiliate sites. You need your own hosting and domain names ideally, so you have complete control over your stuff.

I got loads of stuff on my YouTube about this if you're interested.

As others have said, you'd only need to register as self-employed with HMRC. Registering a company at Companies House means incorporating a Limited Company which you probably have no need for at this point.

My advice would be wait to see if you actually make any money first because if you don't and you register you'll have to fill in a return every year for ever more.
