Hi I am looking to set up my own hamper business have lots of ideas, research done etc, just need some help on the legal side. in particular do i need to be registered with food safety / have premises inspected. the majority of my hampers will be non food items, but on occassions the hampers may include a box of chocolates / biscuits etc, this will be shop bought / packed and i obvioulsy will only be handling them to put them in the hamper. i have been told i may still need inspecting for this???

thanks, thats what i thought as not handling any actual items without wrappers but was told by a friend who does similar that i would need to be inspected still if i was planning on putting sweets in them

What is there for them to inspect?? How do you inspect a prepacked box of chocolates?

Unless your handling raw food, without any packaging then yes, but only if you manufacture the end product ie sandwiches, ice cream and certainly not for chocolates, fruit and veg or anything in a wrapper or packet.

Be carefull when listening to friends and family they may say things to put you off.

Would you not still need to comply with other food safety issues though such as stock rotation, pest control etc?

I would suggest maybe a meeting with your local Environmental Health department to run through the compliance aspects of your business.
