Hi,

I am currently looking at the best options for website hosting companies based in the UK. My question is do I get a business name email address as part of the standard hosting package, ie one that has my .co.uk domain name?

Thanks

Fasthosts ( Who I get my domains through ) offer a forwarding feature ( for free )

You buy the .com / .co.uk etc and then it can forward all mail sent to [email protected] to another email account ( your yahoo account for example )

    OR

You can pay a few quid a month for an outlook mailbox. So you get Microsoft outlook access ad webaccess.

With some hosting provider you can get Business domain name free with few hosting some packages ( you can look for all in one package) or register you domain separately if you wish to, and its always a good practice to maintain your own company domain name.

Jumping on your thread - apologies.

I too am looking for a UK hosting with email addresses included - I have already purchased my domain.

    Tagging along for suggestions.

Make sure you do plenty of research before finally deciding on a provider. Service, support and length of time in business is important. Are they a registered business? Do they submit accounts?

There are way too many fly-by-night bedroom hosts still around.

    Afternoon all,

Me (and a lot of other members on this forum) would recommend Vidahost.

The coupon JUSTASK will give 10% off any hosting package order, using any billing cycle.

I started with their service about 2 months ago and their support is the best I've received from any host. Response time I think at the moment averages at 12 mins and they usually fix the problem within 1 hour.

I've also just realised that this resembles a sales pitch. I'm sure others will back me up nonetheless.

    Kind Regards,
    Ryan

    Thanks Graeme,

It's a pleasure hosting you and the number of UKBF members we host.

In answer to the OP, I'd say any decent host won't charge extra for email on your domain, and generally should provide webmail, forwarding to gmail and other email providers, and obviously the ability to connect with an email client such as Outlook as standard.

Some hosts will also provide a domain name free of charge with the hosting, which as mentioned can make things simpler and more cost effective.

If you've got any questions we're happy to help.

    Good luck,

    Dan

Depends on the supplier/service you pick, but usually a hosting package will include email service(s) as well as website service(s)

If you already have the domain name registered, it's normally as simple as updating it to use your hosts nameservers to start using it with the hosting.

If you don't have the domain, then you need to check that a domain (if included in the package or supplied separately) is registered in your name.

If you have cPanel access, which is the software used to manage your hosting package, you can create your business name email addresses, (as many as you want like info.. sales.. etc) there's other similar software like plesk but I personally like cPanel.

Most hosting companies offer an all in one service where you buy and register the domain name through them. Then they also SHOULD offer an option to register email addresses on the domain name purchased.

Now be very careful when choosing a hosting company...You should look at the specifications of bandwidth, up time, support and what type of servers they run are but some of the things.

Now here is a shortcut that I suggest when deciding on a host. Make a shortlist of companies and then read customer reviews on them. You will quickly discover who is in and who is out.

Hope you get right. If you are interested in an all in one Website Creation Course that will teach you how to register a domain and create your own website in less than a hour go to cool-website-designs.com

They also have a great variety of website building tools that are for free.

Domain registration is usually included with all Shared hosting packages when choosing Yearly billing cycle. But if you already have your domain you can pretty much choose any host and all you need to do is point your domain to the nameservers provided by the web hosting provider. Just be sure to do your research first to make sure the provider has good reviews etc.

I run a few websites and have hosted some with Vision Internet for several years. They're very reliable, use cpanel for management of your account and allow you to set up a number of email addresses using your company's website domain. They aren't the cheapest though.

I also use TSOHost who offer a similar service. They also seem a bit cheaper and their customer service is great.

I am on a plan that gives me unlimited hosting.

Just a point of order, there is no such thing as unlimited, its just a marketing term.

You may get unlimited bandwidth - but you get limited speed, so in reality the amount of bandwidth you can use is limited.

You may get unlimited disc space but limited number if inodes so the number of files are limited, and anyway due to the limited bandwidth speed you could never upload an unlimited amount of disc.

You may get unlimted number of domains, but the fair usage policy on processing means that if they start to use significant processing resource they get turned off.

Then there are other limits that the unwary are oblivious too until they bite them, like PHP script execution time. Max memory per process. etc etc

I use Fasthosts and Heart Internet, albeit as a reseller.

    Both fairly cheap and cheerful.

Heart have email only support, response if fairly fast, but seldon the answer to the question you asked, you just need to be persistant.

For end-users account such as yourself, , I think Fasthosts use offshore support. Resellers get UK based, and is ok.

Fasthosts tend to have basic services, and everything else is a chargeable extra, and they tend to bill a month in advance for renewals etc.

Heart tend to do more extensive all-in-one options.

Email services from both are reliable.

Avoid at all costs any service which offers a "free" domin registration - some register the domain to themselves, so you never actualy own it, and charge a lot to move to another provider.

Most website-builder packages are rubbish (1&1 springs to mind), so don't allow the giveaways to unduly influence your choice of host!

There are so many webhosts; some good and some bad.

The one i've settled on for the last 5 years, is Vidahost - UK based and i've been with them since they were a new, small company and now they have grown.
For me, I wouldn't use anyone else.

Just research whoever you choose ie Google "CompanyName reviews" and see if there are any bad reports etc.
