New Website

I have a website selling children's clothing, shoes and gifts.

My site has been live for about a month now and i still haven't sold anything.
I am sure it takes time to get noticed. I am using Google ad words and i have posted a small advert on the net mums site i have also been to local day nursery's.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Mel,

We didn't sell anything for our first month or so. A year on things are going well. It takes time to climb the search engine ladder but you've got to make sure your site does the SEO basics at least.

Tell anyone and everyone about your site, advertise locally as well to begin with. You'll probably get call after call from advertisers offering you the best deal in the world. Choose who you want to advertis with and don't get sucked in by the sales calls.

Firstly make sure you have a well designed, well structured website, and as the others say, make sure you work on your SEO factors for your site on an ongoing basis.
There is a ton of good information on this section of the forum and I suggest the 101 Tips to Improve your web presence thread (a sticky at the top of the SEO section of this forum) as a good starting point. In particular I recommend the blogging/networking tips that are provided.

when i entered cuteenies.co.uk into google - the first natural listing was you so i cliked on it but it took me straight to your terms and conditions page which I found weird instead of your homepage. This will be likely to affect any traffic going into your site from google.

The keyword on your website are:
designer baby clothes, charlie and lola clothes, celebrity baby, me too, toby tiger, inch blue

I doubt these will be gnerating much traffic - have you doen some keyword research on what words to use? Ideally you need to find keywords that have a decnet amount of traffic and little competition - you'd be surprised what people search for. regarding adwords - are you targeting specific words like 'kids trousers' and deep-linking into relevant product pages?

THe design is nice, but that is not what Google sees when it indexes pages.

Your pages are not structured correctly, in that the content is not correctly weighted by using headings etc. There isn't actually much textual content on the homepage either.

I've not had a detailed look as i'm at work at the moment, but I think with a bit of work you could easily get up the rankings.

(Also, to touch on a point someone else made - please don't expect your customers to be typing in cuteenies into Google - they'll be searching for your products and information, not your company name so target those instead).

You should research for better keyword and do SEO it more. Plus make your website more attractive. It's not attractive for me. It seems more like a blog rather than an ecommerce site.

Well I did! I cut url and pasted into google cos thats my homepage & I am too lazy to paste into address bar and add www. Never underestimate the amount of differences in the way people use the web. If I've done it, I bet other visitors do too.

In all fairness research has found that a significant number of people actually type an entire website address into google or yahoo search. It is thought that people new to the internet believe G or Y (and AOL especially) is the browser not IE, FF or whatever.

How exactly are you marketing this?

Exactly! We had someone post something similar a few months back. He was wondering why he wasn't getting any sales - it was then realised that he was getting around 0-10 visitors a day. To achieve the sales he was expecting would have required 1000+ visitors a day!

Yes but the problem is how would they KNOW the address to type in? Surely it's better to rank higher in search engines for your product/service keywords rather than your actual company name...? E.G. when people search for a product online (which they will know the name of, as they know what they want!) wouldn't it be better if they found your site that way?

The problem is not enough sales and not enough traffic.

I am using Google ad words, maybe i need to think about other keywords, i am using brand names, children's clothing, baby clothing etc and i am getting clicks to my website but not enough

Your site doesn't look too bad, there are much worse looking sites which do well!

The major issue with it to me is that you don't have enough products. Even if you do start getting 100s of visitors you're unlikely to sell very much as there is little to choose from. You need more images on the homepage, people like pictures!

SEO wise it doesn't look good, hardly any content, hardly any inbound links, even basics like Alt tags are missing........it's a long hard road, I've been their myself.
