Is this the best way.

Im going to reg a new domain, buy a new wordpress theme from theemforest and swap it with an old site I cant do much with, Copy and past some content from my old site to the new one along and add my new content, logo and pics.

Once I have the new wordpress theme up and running I want to point the old site domains to my new site, will I have any problems in doing this also will I lose my google ranking.

Kenny,

Ranking on Google is not web domain specific but page specific.

It is pages that rank not domains.

If you were doing things right on the last domain, and are now transferring to a new one, your only way of continuing is to employ the same strategies, but by copying directly across (ie word for word) from one domain to another could incur duplication punishments from Google.

One way you could do it is to create a masked URL for your current domain, if you don't know what this is PM me.

When we changed our website from a dreamweaver site to an ecommerce platform we did 301 directs for all pages. We didn't drop at all in google. Why do you need to register a new domain for the site? Can't you design the site then change the dns servers of you current domain to point to the new site once it's finished?

I have my sites hosted with Vidahost.
I was thinking to to buy a new wordpress theme from Themeforest I would need access to my wordpress admin account to down load it to, and this I don't have.
So if If I bought a new domain and hosting I will have a new wordpress account to download my new theme, then once up and running point my old domains to my new site and close my old site down.

When you download Wordpress they send you an email (ours did with bluehost) with a temp URL to access your Wordpress theme. You can then develop the site there and then transfer when you are ready. In the end we paid £700 for a guy to design ours and set up all the pages so all I have to do is add the content. He gave me a tutorial over the phone on how to add photos, content, new pages etc. I've been very impressed how easy it is for a total novice! I've even added a plugin to create forms by myself!!

Yes you do and No you don't...nor do you need to access the db.

Buy your theme
Download it
Login to your wp admin (yourdomain/wp-admin)
Go to appearance >> themes
Add new
Browse to the downloaded file
Install
Preview then activate
Done.
