New website would like your views

We have just launched our website and although it is still under construction and nobody can sign up yet, we are putting feelers out to see how much interest there is nationwide.

Our new website features information on everything you need financially to assist you in starting up, running and developing your business. All the information is constantly kept up to date, so you can be confident of always having the right information to hand.

Tax Secrets Revealed was formed with the aim of providing quality and professional advice to individuals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We will have Newsletters to keep you up to date with what's going on in the world of business and Hot Tips for saving Tax and getting better prepared for the end of year accounts.

Would this information site help all you small businesses out there, we are hoping so,

I can't post the url as I am a new member, but it is the same as our name: taxsecretsrevealed.co.uk

-Doesn't have a professional touch
-Header is too big
-Logo title looks like its JPEG with reduced quality
-Image of woman looked stretched
-No decent layout, looks messy
-Color contrast is good
-Probably infringing copyright with those images
-Side menu is too long, too many spaces, looks crap
-Two unnecessary menus
-£15 per month isn't worth it (unless I'm missing something)

The idea is good and the information will probably be well recieved so all in all it's a good website. But I have to be honest the design, typography and layout is very poor. If you want to turn this into a serious venture you NEED professional web design, simple as that.

(I've only been doing A-level Graphics for a week in College and up to now it's been about designers points of view, layout etc. I've become so critical ).

unfortunately MKT reakt is right. Image is everything on a website and so is ease of use. seeking a professional web design company to design you a site would be a good start or try an open source content management solution to help you out. try joomla.org highly recommended!

So, how do you suggest I change the site for the time being, I would appreciate your help.

As you guessed I am new to web design, I am self taught (until I go to night school in a couple of months), I use Dreamweaver

Well if you're planning on getting professional design at some point then it's ok. but I advise you get that done before you think about any kind of broad marketing.

Keep the information simple, easy to read and to the point. Do some research on each article and think from the business persons point of view, what information would people want? Don't confused people with jargon either, give the definition then explain in simple terms.

Being self taught does has it's up and downs. I myself am self taught too in all things IT and web. Just keep revisiting your design, look at what you find pleasing on the interweb, what makes you go 'ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'. Borrow peoples ideas but never copy them. if you like something try to replicate it in dreamweaver. try copying the html in then trying to see what it does and why. it's a long process but an interesting one at that. ohhh also be ready for major criticism!! learn to see the positive in the most negative comments

Yes the site design is poor. Unprofessional. And because of that you will lose potential customers. You can't use that as a gauge for success.

You'd do better to create a cheap site with a website builder. The one I recommend in a lot of cases to people (because of price, the goodies you get) is

If it were me I'd not charge at first either. Build your userlist first.

My two penn'orth:

- Good business idea
- Too much white space in the page design, and it's too wide (I need to scroll it sideways a little, even at 1024x768, and many users are still on 800x600)
- The font for the main content section is too small. Makes it look unimportant in relation to the stuff in the margins
- Definitely don't try charging 15 pounds. No-one knows who you are. Even if you're already famous, giving something genuinely useful away free lets people gain the confidence to pay to upgrade to the full package.

Hi, I'm not going to comment too much on the design, this has been covered by others...but as a beating stick of the taxman on seveal occasions, I would like to say that a "NO SAVINGS, NO PAY" would be a better idea to start with...!

A simple, we get 10% of everything we save you is your fee! this will generate registrations, interest and hopefully hits.

If you're stuck for ideas, you might try adapting an existing web page design. If you go to any search engine anf type in "free website templates" you'll find loads of sites offering web page templates you can modify and use perfectly legally.
