New Software Startup

I'm working full-time but on the side about to start up my own software development company. Probably specialising in web applications development as it's where my experience is.

Just wondering if anybody has required/worked with/started their own similar company recently in the Liverpool area?

Any success stories? Tips?

Web applications? Not so much - however I'm in the Wirral area and I run my own web-hosting company. I have knowledge in the usual HTML, CSS, and PHP but I haven't made an application that is used in production. That being said, my hosting company are working on a new client management, service/product management, and billing/invoice system but that's being done by our internal team and we don't offer development as a service.

I have experience with developing bespoke ERP systems so I'd ideally play to my strengths and promote this service more than most.

Phil - sounds good. If things go to plan it may be that I need to incorporate some sort of hosting plan in with what I deliver, I'll keep you in mind if that's ok? Would much rather do business with someone local for a few reasons.

I've been doing the occasional bit of freelance work over the last few years, but I've just signed a maintenance agreement with a customer to take over maintenance of their website, and I am about to start a joint venture with a friend to create a new SaaS product.

As such I decided it would be easier to register a business to put all the work through. We will be specialising in web application development, but primarily working on our own web applications, but doing a bit of contract work on the side initially until things get going.

It may be worthwhile us staying in touch and sharing experiences / advice on the startup process.

I am located near Carlisle.
