I have created my new site : www.searchtheshops.com

Its a site directory, for companies to place adverts to promote their company. Just wanted to see what people think of the site, the design and maybe where i could promote it, and how i could go about building it up.

I have banner space available to purchase on the site, the banner will be in circulation on every page on the site.

So let me know what you think

Thanks
Adam :)

I think you should offer Free listings for a limited time period. I doubt if anyone would part with money to advertise on the site as it is now. I agree with mattley offer a service for certain niche's within certain industries trhen build on that.

As others have said, nothing wrong with the design but nothing unique at the moment about it.

The one real critism would be the paypal bit at the top - firstly paypal to me says teenager/ student at home rather than professional company and secondly, as a potential customer of one of the stores rather than a B2B person the fact you have made a big thing about your payment provider makes me think that I may have to pay to use your listings (rather than companies that are listing having to pay)

yes, we are offering free listings for the first month, in order to increase traffic and the number of listings available on the site. and then try and get some money through the advertising banners.

The design is just fine, nice and simple...people are able to start looking for what they want straight away although their doesn't seem to be a definition search facility, users have to browse categories manually. This is alright in the short-term as you won't have many shops in each category. But if your site is successful and you have hundreds or thousands in each category then a search facility will be required.

Design is simple but there's just nothing there to make most people look any further. Images of example products next to each category would help - but you really need to spell out why people should use your site..........

.....for example what companies you use (the more respectable and well known the better image it will display for you), how many products or companies you feature (any less than 50-100 per category won't look too good).

Company profiles on the home page may also help, you could even eventually charge a premium for this (just as ebay do for their auctions)

These sites are two a penny, usually built now to cream some adsense revenue - good luck to you though.
