Ok!

Laptop died today, so needed a new one to keep my business going. My mum had to purchase on her card as the first lot of funds haven't come into my business yet (limited company)

so a couple of questions:

My money arrives in 3 weeks, do I just pay her out of that? and keep the receipt that I have. HMRC won't mind right?

Secondly, how do HMRC test that the laptop is just for business use (it is, but just wondering!)

I've used MacBook's at home for years now and have been pleased with them. At work, Thinkpad's are still the best laptops for your typical windows environment. Both are interchangeable too, I can run multiple OS's on each and they have similar quality in terms of build, keyboard, screens, battery etc.

Its absolutely fine Ryan, the tax man is not that unreasonable, if it looks proper he has better things to do than chase paper. You bought it, you use it for work. Get the receipt for the laptop off your mum and make a note on the back, 'the payment details you made to your mum' (just in case). then put it in your accounts. :)
