New Game Idea

Hi all,

I am posting this thread in the hope that some of you could shed some light on this for me.

I have a great new game idea/concept. Its sports related, and could be described as a 'table' game as such. A little like subbuteo but a lot more advanced. It requires quite a bit of skill and tactical awareness and could be used for several different sporting codes, which opens up the target markets.

My question is, considering that kids and adolescents are computer game brainwashed, does this type of game have any potential in todays marketplace, or am I simply a couple of decades too late?

Any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated.

I think if it is marketed correctly you will be fine and identify the unique things about it and what is in it for the player, however, I would recommend a focus group with the product or something that encompasses the principles of it available to play if possible.

I agree with the focus group suggestion.....this is very important.

Which means?

Hi,

Feel free to read my methodology: http://www.swimglows.com/methodology/

It explains about the FREE patent file date.

I designed a family board game based around Mobile Phones called 'Play As U Go' TM a few years ago and pitched it direct to the big brands including Tomy, Hasbro, Drumondpark, Ravensburger and a few smaller brands and all wanted some eletronics device included.

Hi Hex,

No but I have a fully working prototype and the family enjoy playing the boardgame at Christmas etc....

I am working with a couple of developers on two different styles of flash games and mobile device apps....one of the games is a very unique football game / app and has already attracted a lot of attention:cool:

Could your game be developed for mobile devices?

Hi Dave,

All the best with your new projects! Hope you get a break.

To be honest I'm not too technical and haven't even played a game on a mobile device!

Although, my game does require an element of physical skill to play, it is fairly strategic. Could you give me any examples of games of this type that could or have been developed for mobile devices?

There are plenty of role playing games (RPG) on mobile devices, just do a search for iphone or android +RPG or +RTS (Real Time Strategy). In fact strategy games are probably easier than arcade style games where speed, frame rate, smoothness is of the essence.

That's what my answer was going to be. Make a prototype Hex. More to the point, make prototypes, that is carry out an iterative process of new-prototype>test>change and repeat that loads of times. Test it with different people.

Your early prototypes should be really really cheap, not good quality ones. I've got a fantastic computer games design book in which the author describes paper prototyping. He describes how you can prototype a game like Doom. The point is, if Doom is prototypable on paper pretty much any game is prototypable on the super cheap.

Doing so will get proof one way or another to answer: "does this type of game have any potential in todays marketplace"
