Don't get rid of the old site, Just add the new site to the domain and add links from the old pages to the new.

It probably needs a bit of care and attention but it's all doable and you get all the benefits of a mature domain.

Thanks for the responses.
Its just that the name of my domain is not reflective of my current business name although it is in the same sector, how would I arrange this do I have to transfer all the pages from my new site to my old domain and what would show up in the url bar?
i.e. billselectricsupplies.co.uk (new)
elctricalnortheast.com (old)

If the old site is

What links? It sounds to me like it's a completely new business and the old site is dead.

If the branding fits the old domain should be used, no redirects or forwarding. Though if the branding doesn't fit I probably wouldn't bother, just set a 301 to the new domain. I'd go with clear branding to not confuse or put off customers over domain age.

Ha, does it? What other versions of PM do you know? :D

PuMmel maybe?:p

Definately use the old domain ... but ... nothing to worry about, but if you change the purpose of a domain by changing the content, Google has a process that will sandbox your site. This means that for a month or two your site will not be listed until Google understands its new context.

This is a recent change in Google, and is basically a protection against deliberate or due to hacking - re-purposing sites to trick the serps to get temporary traffic hikes.
