Hello to you all!

Following 11 years of working for other people within marketing and sales roles I have finally built up the confidence to set up my own business offering copywriting services. I'm in the very early stages of refining my business plan and researching various aspects but I thought I would join this forum to pick up any tips and advice to help me make a success of this new venture!

I'm hard working, determined to work for myself and I'm very capable of writing good copy - the main hurdle for me has been to stop thinking about it and just get on and do it!

Sounds good! I do a lot of writing myself. How are you planning to charge and how did you decide on a figure? :)

I haven't finalised it yet but the pricing structure is likely to be on a per project basis, rather than per page or word. I'll take a detailed brief from the customer, estimate the time it will take, allowing for any amendments required, then apply my hourly rate accordingly.

I know some copywriters charge a standard rate per page or word but I think it’s far more accurate quoting on an ad hoc basis so this is what I am most comfortable with. I find the time it takes me to write 500 words differs between projects for various reasons, e.g. whether I have written for them previously, the industry they are in, how much initial research is required etc.

What type of wiring do you do then JenniB?
