Everyone likes facts, straight facts, so lets get straight to it.

I used to own a successful high street company,
I owned several outlets of which i sold prior to covid.
I didn't receive any of the generous donations made by our government therefore i am left with only a small pot to piss in so to speak.
I would like to start up a Community Interest Company.
Idea is to replicate the old pre-covid company without the constant need to be present.
Idea is to employ staff from disability and long term unemployed on temp or lower end contracts, this replicates a "rival" buisness.
Access to Council Grants for the "betterment of the area" via CIC - to pay Staff wages per-sae

Here lies the problem, my business would be in recycling, but with the huge cost in energy right now and my utter lack of experience in CIC company's and CIC grants, im struggling to work out the financial help available for running a CIC.

I have visually seen it viable, but under the hood im struggling to see.

Hi in my archives here I have two links which might make some interesting reading, it sounds like once you have put your "business plan" together your going to need to try and pitch it to the local council in the first instance, with councils strapped for cash this might prove difficult but hopefully if they are not able to offer support they may be able to point you in the right direction to other local bodies who may have some cash.

    PS
Sounds like a lot of work to set up and like any business not sure how "hands off" you will be unless you can have some very strong onsite management in place day to day, but best of luck

Difficult to comment as you haven't said which sort of recycling business you are running or why you feel a CIC would be the right model but some initial questions/thoughts.

    1. Why do you think you won't need to be 'present' in this new business. Who will be running it
    2. Why do you think you will get council grants for your CIC. How would the Council paying your wage bill lead to 'betterment of the area'
    3. Lots of grants are available to charities only so not available to CICs
    4. https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/office-of-the-regulator-of-community-interest-companies
    5. For household recycling for example you don't get grants to offer this service you need to tender for contracts and demonstrate you have the infrastructure and resources in place to deliver it

Maybe over stating the present angle a tad, in former business i was hand on present from open to close 7 days a week, at many times i was the sole salesman in the shop as i believed i could do it all my self, obviously burnout occurred.

    2. Simple answer is, taking people who are disadvantaged, unemployable or with dependency's, training them on ict building and recycling and giving them confidence and possible a basic nvq of sorts to help them into future employment.

    3. Cic as a profit making and reinvesting, charity is not so to speak.

    5. The T11 licence allows me/us to remove 1000 tons of ict business waste per year at a cost of around £1,600 ish.

Have to remove number 4 as not allowed to post links.

I appreciate this, however, the "rival" business i aim looking at, the director has strong brown envelope interests in local government so i don't want to be identified for ruffling feathers until required.

This being a huge website for viewing on all business i would be amazed if eyes were not gazed and context would be a huge giveaway.
