Hi Ryan,

I would suggest that you take some time to sit and create a list of everything you need to know in order to provide an accurate quote to a potential customer.

I am presuming that you know your trade and therefore you must know all the problems that could add cost to a job. Make sure you ask these questions in your initial information gathering from your client.

With your list you can see all the things that need to be included or pointed out on your quote.

Perhaps obtain a sample quote from a competitor and see how they are operating?

One thing I have seen time and time again is quotes without an expiry date. Sooner or later someone will demand you honour a quote that is perhaps 5 or 6 years old, all because there was no expiry statement. E.g. this quote expires four weeks from the date of the quote (or similar).

Hope this helps

Hi David,

Your advice to Ryan was also very useful to me. As up to now I have never thought about putting an expiry date on my quotes to potential customers.

Thanks for raising this matter.

Yours sincerely,

If you can list the costs you incur, establish how much you need to make yourself. Someone on here or even myself if I have time will creat a simple quotation spreadsheet.
