i'm from a sales background but have been set up as a self employed pr sales
I said above i'm working on a self employed basis for a pr company.
It is really difficult to advise you @Fionn lynch as you aren't providing any information on the type of sales you want to do or your background.
A key part of sales is being able to communicate well.
If you don't know how to develop a sales/marketing strategy for your business, then I would suggest you pay a marketing person with experience of sales in the PR sector to help you develop one.
I worked in door to door sales and have had experience with telesales but have been told to stick to Linkedin. Why? Do you know much about PR or sales?

commission only, no hands on support, I have b2b sales experience selling stationery, it's help with like posters, blog support, podcasts and some analytics. I am new and haven't got my head round the services yet.OK, what are they providing you with?
It appears that you're working commission only, with no training/support/b2b sales experience to sell a service you don't understand.
the guy who runs the businessHopefully you are really self employed, not an employee told you are self employed to cost yourself money in order to work.

the guy who runs the business
the guy who runs the business told me I was self employed.
So you work when you want, turn up when you want, go when you want, take holidays when you want. Wear own clothing as you wish?
You use own equipment, drive own vehicle when need to drive.
And you bill the business regularly with an invoice for your services.
If however you are expected to act like an employee then odds are you are an employee.
Self employed don't get sick pay, holiday pay, pension contribution from employer, and you get to pay your own tax and NI. Hopefully you are invoicing the company for over a hundred pounds a day for your services.
I am being asked to act like an employee and work on a self employed basis in the short term at least.
i'm embarrassedI'm somewhat perplexed by this thread... but I shall try and add some meaningful input...
Do a job you like and enjoy. If you know nothing about PR, you're being hoodwinked into being on 'commission only' and really dodging HMRC, and helping your employer do so (it speaks volumes about them and their approach) I would get the hell out of there.
Get a job where you are valued and supported properly and not settle for a situation like you find yourself in, again!
