Good Morning,

Some of you may already know that my sister in law is starting her own Mobile Hairdressing Business. I suggested to her that networking & business forums offers a wealth of knowledge and I would try and draft in a bit of support from them.

Sabrina has been a single mother since the day her son was born 6 years ago. Now 25 she has decided to put the past behind her which consisted of various hard times and poor choice boyfriends. Leaving this behind her she has developed the skills required to become a Mobile Hairdresser and the will to provide a better life for her and her son.

I'm aware that this is a shot in the dark but I'm hoping that I'm in the right place to get some help. Is there anyone out there who is willing to offer some freebies to support this business venture. Logo, Website, Marketing, Design etc. It would be fantastic if I can get a few of you to invest some time in to this as this would obviously increase her chances of becoming established more professionally.

I personally will thank the people interested by way of business referrals and work as well as a testimonial from myself and of course Sabrina.

Even if you can't afford to invest the time to provide some free products & services why not offer your 2p by helping to think of a company name. She would love to have her name incorperated in to the company name. Go crazy..

Thank you everyone for even considering to read this as I'm sure you would wish her all the best.

All the best.

    Hi Shaun

I hope your sister in law's venture goes well.

My cousin runs a mobile hair dresser too. She gets most of her work through word of mouth (she used to manage a hair dressing shop though).

    Here's some free marketing advice.

She has a son at school. Ask the school if you can put a poster on the school notice board and a notice in the school newsletter (offer a percentage to go to the PTA). In fact she could do this with all the local schools, nurseries and playgroups. Parents with small kids find it hard to go out and pamper themselves when they have full time care of young children, so would I am sure welcome a cost effective service they can have at home. Always have a bunch of flyers/cards to give out at the school gate.

With summer fetes coming up she could get a stall at school fetes and offer hair related service ie hair braiding for youngsters and then use the opportunity to promote her services.

Speak to local beauty/tanning salons. Offer to cross market ie she will recommend them to her customers and she can have her cards/a flyer at their premises.

Contact her local Age Concern/local sheltered housing scheme, or other similar organisation supporting older people. She is she could do a regular session at a sheltered housing unit or Age Concern Day Centre.

Join up with a local beautican and offer pampering sessions perhaps offer an afternoon/evening where a small group of friends/family members can get together and get their hair andc nails done and have a facial.

Speak to the reporters at the local papers/radio station. Most local media will love a story about someone who is fighting the odds and setting up on their own during the recession.

Speak to her local business link. They have lots of really good courses she can go on including ones on PR and marketing.

    Good luck

Talk to hotels about providing wedding day hairdressing in their hotels.
Talk to people that do Virgin Vie & Avon parties etc.
Offer a loyalty scheme to regular clients
Maybe even talk to some local employers about offering an in-house lunchbreak type scheme. Partic employers where the premises are stuck out in an industrial estate and employees can't get into town to get things like this done easily.

Re a name, how about Sabbies?
