Netcat mail

Hello everyone! I don't know if this is the right section to post in, feel free to move this thread as you see fit. I am trying to send an email using netcat, but I can't really get it to work. I've read all the tutorials I could find to no avail. Can someone please teach me how to do this?

Netcat is a very useful tool, actually the fastest way to shift data across a network, as long as encryption is not an issue.

I've never used it to send email, and wouldn't while there are so many other and better tools for that.

What exactly is your purpose?

Are you familiar with the SMTP protocol?

What problems exactly are you running into?

And finally, plus one to @KM-Tiger 's question, what's the purpose? Surely there is a better solution to your problem (unless you're just wanting to learn).

The purpose is learning. My problem is that after reading all the tutorials in it I don't exactly know what to type after nc in terminal. Also, I've done some reading on smtp but I don't know were to start to gain a better understanding of it.

Are you on a *nix platform?

There is actually an example of how send to send an email with netcat in its man page. Have you tried that?

And do you want to learn about netcat or learn about SMTP?

I've managed to use it eventually. The email I've sent to a friend went to spam, but I didn't spend much time reading the headers of a proper mail from google for example. I did this just to see if ti works.
