Net director Pro / Ekm Powershop any reviews?

Hi Steve, I signed up with EKM Powershop a few weeks ago and it was the best thing I ever did! I had tried Mr Site & Doyourownsite before and they were, quite frankly, just not up to scratch. I wanted my site to look professional but be easy enough for me, very much a novice, to use.

I'm really pleased with how my website is coming out - going to have a template personalised for me but apart from that everything is sorted. It costs £20 a month but you pay around £90 I think it is for the setting up/domain name etc etc.

They are not to be used at any cost - will blackmail customers
I used ekm powershop for about 6 months and have to say in my entire time with ekm I was insulted by the staff. Frequently lied to over problems with my website. They would tell me the problem was only on my computer yet i would have customers ringing me up. They will tell you that if you leave any bad reviews about them or tell people to stay away they will CLOSE YOUR BUSINESS DOWN with no warning whatsoever.

You cannot access their forum until you join. The reason for this is because you will see a lot of dusgruntled customers on there. Not all as most have been banned from the forum because EKM dont want to deal with them. They claim to be the uk number 1 supplier but indeed this is probably a questionable claim. They have also been known to write their own 5 star reviews as well. so beware of what you read. I would check out some online retail forums or online business forums and find the general view on ekm before you ever sign up.

On the whole I would not even send my worst enemy to ekm at all. Don't even get me started on the fact that nothing actually works as it should on there.

I have in the past few years banned a couple of punters from using any of my retail outlets.

There is a difference between having a legitimate issue that you are unable to resolve with the service provider, and running your mouth off emotionally with libelous outbursts.

Sadly the latter has become the norm with the anonymity of the web.

They have also been known to write their own 5 star reviews as well. so beware of what you read.

It's nigh on impossible to find any company that doesn't write their own positive reviews. It used to be false testimonials and before that it was dodgy TV or newspaper ads for high street retailers.


On the whole I would not even send my worst enemy to ekm at all. Don't even get me started on the fact that nothing actually works as it should on there.

EKM are like any service provider; they walk a line between service provision and the bottom line. In my experience of the market they've not always managed to get it right but as personnel change and the focus of the company improves, I'm sure they'll land on the right formula.

ChannelGrabber works closely with EKM Powershop and in my experience with customers who use them they are a great bunch of people. This may not have been your experience with them, I think they would genuinely be upset if they found out they had upset someone as much as you.

EKM have so many webstores and the reason is they are pretty much the cheapest with the best support and very simple and easy to use stores. They also have really good SEO on them from what I have seen.

I have never had any experience with Net Director per se, however from what I can see, they are owned by gforces who used to own Tiger Commerce before it was bought out by EKM so it may be a case of which ever choice you pick you are really picking EKM but I do not know this for sure, gforces may use Net Director for other business purposes than for a hosted webstore.

EKM have somewhere between 10k-15k current webstores (definitely not a made up stat) and they are bound to upset some of their customers, hell, probably tons of customers with that kind of numbers. I personally can only vouch for how much they have helped our customers and we happily work with EKM and recommend them as whenever we do recommend EKM, they always make us look good!

EKM is very simple and easy, it is a little restrictive and one day you will out grow them but they are happy for people to out grow them as they focus on SME businesses.

Most of their longer standing customers and more are leaving by the day. So many that Bluepark have even set up a specific Import for people leaving ekm to make the transition easier. Believe me when i say there are a lot more out there who are a lot angrier than I.

This is not something new either. Whilst I agree that ekm was a very good platform they are no more. Their customer service is the worst i have ever come across. My website was ruined by EKM updates at least once a month then i was told i would be charged £50 per hour to fix this.

Now before you say i must have changed something No this was not the case, I was insulted by Jason, and Mark in sales just outright lied to me. I still have the screenprint of the live chat i had with him before signing up. EKM answered this by telling me policy was changed in the ten minutes it took me to sign up.

Again I urge people to stay away from this platform.

One more thing to add at the end of our contract with sage we were going to move across to Total web solutions, However I cannot let my company associate with one who supports EKM in any way shape or form.

925gifts, you seem to have not had a very good experience with EKM. You are the first person I encountered that has had such negative feelings regarding them and I will definitely take heed of what you have said.

My personal experience has been somewhat different with them and for many of our customers it has been a very good choice for them. It may be an issue of smaller businesses finding a better value you there.

Who do you use now 925gifts?

You can't have been around very long, EKM's customer service used to be our biggest recruiting agent when in the same market.

You get what you pay for with EKM, if you accept that then it's as good an option as most, but don't expect the best platform or service level.

I am now with Bluepark. and to be honest yes the cost is a little more but the platform works as it should straight out of the box.

I had no end of problems with EKM and their "features" and to be hones not a lot of it worked as it should when it should. The final straw for me was when EKM's system generated over 9000 duplicate pages (curpage paginator) and google dropped me due to having 9000 duplicate mea descriptions and titles. These pages were non existent and out of my control. EKM's response was they would charge me an hourly fee to look into it.

Bluepark is on the ball. EKM grew very quickly and could not handle it. And to be honest any issues i have had with BP get answered fast. I sent them a technical queery about 10pm one saturday night. (not expecting a reply till late monday) and got my issue sorted by rich who owns it about 30 mins later.
