Just a word of caution...ask as many questions as you need... please make sure that it is not a repeat of the tendering for the council "bear with us " stuff.:)

There are some very good designers, website makers etc, on this forum. See the portfolios. make an informed decision.Take advice.. read the threads.. etc etc.

Before you even think about talking to any website people there are a lot of questions you need to know the answers to, or you are likely to spend your money to virtually zero effect.

Who are the visitors you hope to attract and what will they be looking for? Are they all one type or are there a number of categories with different needs? Are these visitors a national audience or local?

How will you convert these visitors into customers?

What means will you have to update the website with fresh information? Can you do that yourself or do you have to pay someone else each time?

Who will be doing the SEO work? You need a way of getting your site under the noses of potential visitors.

Are you going to be doing PPC? Can you easily add landing pages if you are?

That's just a few I can think of right now!

There's some good info here, a website from one of this forum's members, and other pages on that site.

I know what you mean about engineers as I used to be in that field. Nothing more annoying than not being able to get the one piece of info that is the difference between go and no go.

So already it's a little bit special as you really want a web designer that thinks like that and can get all that vital info on the pages.

Tej: "thermostat" gives a clue?

Hi,

Could always use joomla, easy to up date, I have had good results with organic searching too, so as regards to seo I would highly recommend, also Carl who is on the forums has excllent hosting packages.

If you need any advice or help with anything just drop me a PM.

Regards Wayne

I hate that. "I've sent you a PM."

It's like calling someone up to let them know you've sent them an email. Why bother?

To the original poster: it is my personal and professional opinion that from what you have specified, a simple Wordpress Content Management System would do exactly what you need. If you simply want it to display contact details and information and you don't intend to generate sales organically from people finding your site through Google (unless you're in a niche market) then Wordpress with a Template is the way to go.

You can spend from a fiver to thousands of pounds on your website. It all boils down to what you want what you need and what you can afford.

By 'want', I mean what you want the site to do, how you want it to look, how you imagine the final product to be. By 'need', I mean what you really need the site to do (contact form, etc.) and what you really need as a bare minimum. And obviously, 'afford', what you can afford to spend on the site (not just money, but time and effort as well)

It is interesting to see that there are quite a few engineer's websites built using the free Microsoft Office Live DIY website builder, you can see some of them by running this google query.

Office Live gives you the hosting too, and a site which you can update yourself. If you find it is a good match, I would only recommend it for UK businesses if you are using a .co.uk domain, and I would also recommend that you purchase the domain separately from a domain registrar like 123-reg.

It's really a good move to own website for your business .Now a days 7 out of ten people looking to know information online. The best way to do that is first select a good domain name for your website which is key word rich then ask a web-designer to designe it with user friendly features so that if a a person looking information on your website can easly get all the information .
