I need a designer, initially to get a fairly strightforward but well performing Wordpress brochure site done. There are going to be two separate systems, one a public site (running on Wordpress), the other for logged in customers, but the public site is the priority for now.

Experience of Django templates or similar (e.g. Twig) would be useful in the long term, but is not essential.

The site needs to appeal to the end client's view of what their target market will like, and to be fast loading.

No backend development skills required. Good usability definitely is.

I would like a rough estimate of the cost of getting a simple Wordpress content site done. I do not have enough of the spec of the rest to be useful discussing at this stage. The end client is a start-up so there are cost contraints, but they are realistic.

If you have a portfolio of sites that are aimed at B2B and/or high net worth clients it would be good. Even better if they are investment/finance related.

A little confused here. The design of the site is a theme function. And there are thousands of theme to choose from. The layout of the content is set using blocks and independent of the design.

Django or twig isn’t going to work with Wordpress.

The financial, b2b and high net worth components are driven by the content not the theme.

If they want a functioning and fast loading site they just need to choose a template (to keep costs down). Everything after that is customisation.

Rough costs: £50 up to £5000 depending on the spec.

If you are looking to optimise / SEO and fast loading WordPress site on all devices, picking a ready template is not the perfect route, as they are made like fit for all purpose, so many features you will not need but causing a slow / slugish website. Seen this issue over and over hence custom theme would work better in my expereince. Obviously there is a cost involved. We do offer this service using #Genesis frame work which work great for #SEO.

Not true. Sites are sluggish because people have cheap shared hosting and use page builders and other junk.

Most sites don't need frameworks and frameworks don't improve SEO - most make it worse.

It’s also dated and clunky and uses frameworks. You don’t need frameworks. Things have moved on a lot in the last few years.

Looks at the WCV score for you site - that how bad genesis is.

Good point, I need to clarify. There is going to be a second site for which it would be good to have a matching design, and that is Django based. It would be nice if the same person could do both.

The financial, b2b and high net worth components are driven by the content not the theme.

I agree, but it will reassure the end client's key (non-technical) decision maker if someone has a portfolio of target markets.

We might well do that, but I think it will require a fair bit of customisation so I still want a designer to do it.

A developer rather than a designer. Only because of how Wordpress themes work.

Either way, the key to success is the content. You publish a complete site using any old free theme. The developer can then build a new theme around the content. It’s very unlikely you will find someone with a suitable portfolio. This type of site is very niche and often built using expensive London agencies. All the ones I’ve been involved with were for overseas clients.
