need a name for a new dating website

Hi

I have built a dating website to generate some extra income and am trying to think of a name for it

Has anyone any suggestions please, is quite hard thinking of a name for it and then seeing if the name is available as a domain name

I know I got competition with eharmoney.com and match.com but have made my membership fees cheaper

Kind regards

Ian

They took me a few seconds, and think how bad some of the existing ones are.

Uniformed Dating?! Pure rot, like the advert. "For those who like people in uniforms, or those who don't" - In other words, it's for everybody. Whoever came up with that tripe should be sacked.

Why not just have Fancy Dress Dating...for those who like to dress up, or those who don't. What the hell were the above pack of fools thinking? :D

Hi Ian,

If you're not sure who you're aiming your site at then it's bound to fail. Sorry.

Is there a cross-section of society that don't have a dating website aimed at them? Goths/Christians/Asexual people etc?

I'd start from there and then work on a name around that. I think that would be more successful.

Cater for people who aren't catered for! :)

Hi plymgary

Anyone can sign up for free and they can list their preferences when signing up so they can put in if they are looking for a man or women and they list that they are christian, goth etc

I see what you are saying about cater for those where there is nothing in place already, is a good idea

Ian,

I wanted to follow this idea myself but no time to. I think go down the video clip route. Everyone has access to camera phones these days so would be nice to see a 5-10 second intro video from members. "hi my name is....blah blah blah".

Right im sure some ppl are starting to do that now anyway so heres my 2nd suggestion. Make it completely free for users and try make it as good as those big companies, simply to get them to buy you out the competition. You may want a bit investment though to push the marketing. £30 a month or free, i know which one id choose, then match will take you out the market as you are eating into their UK profits. (maybe needs some investment but if it can grow there's not much input you need to do)

Surely the apprentice was enough to show you that you need a targeted audience and a targeted marketing campaign!

There are two business ideas here either a subscribition or free. Surely the best route to market is to go down the free route and sell advertising space on the site once you have got the traffic.

Waddim, its a dating website, a little good onpage work and some good efforts on initial promotion is enough to make it popular because once it get promoted, the viral marketing by the its users do the rest of the work. I guess SEO for dating websites is the most easiest thing to get populated and there are some other niches too.

^ I have 10 years experience in the dating niche, I have worked with the biggest brands on the net including AFF, Match, HornyMatches, I am sorry to sound negative - but the dating niche online is one of the hardest SEO markets there is and the PPC costs are extremely competetive. Also - do not assume that people will socially share their private dating activities on their facebook pages with all their friends and family to see - it can be a very personal thing - especially in the UK.

right but you are taking dating site as pornography profiles then i completely agree with you but what i guess is here we are talking about dating websites as in match making type of website not finding a partner for bed.

Match (eg) isnt of a pornographic nature.

You may find social sharing amongst men might occur more frequently on the "stronger" shall we say, websites.

Its really complex.

In summary though - SEO - PPC - Sharing - no matter what level the site is aimed at - if its dating, its hard.

The site will be easy to develop, host, design a brand for etc - getting people to join though....... personally I think its possibly in the top 10 most difficult areas online which includes Credit, Adult, Gambling, Pharm.

Dont get me wrong, I wish you well, but its a mountain to climb and the biggest one ive ever worked with.

Unless you've got 100,000's in capital for marketing then you probably won't make a penny.

All those sites that have been mentioned might have crap names and everything else but you know and have heard about them because they are advertised EVERYWHERE.

The more you advertise, the more sign-ups you get, the more matched you get the more you get paid.

You need to have 1000's of sign ups for people to "match"

there are so many types of dating sites , there is even a site for men with moustache , there are now dating sites for married men and women to find someone to cheat with , so the name is going to have to reflect what type market you think will get the most members , there is even dating sites for couples looking for couples and threesomes for their swinging lifestyle
