National Insurance Contributions

Hello,

I am new here and have a NI question that I hope someone can help with.

I am 60 years old and am a sole trader with a health business, and complete a tax return yearly (earnings from this are less than £1000/annum)
I also work part time on a zero-hours contract as a nurse (to supplement my pension) for which tax and National Insurance are taken out by PAYE with the company I work for.
I have 39 years fully paid national insurance contributions, so will receive a full state pension.

Ideally, I do not want to pay any more NI contributions, so, when I complete work on my zero-hours contract with the health company I work for, instead of submitting a time sheet and having tax and NI taken out through PAYE, can I simply invoice the health company as a sole trader, thus bypassing the need to pay NI, or at least pay a lower NI rate?

thanks
Nick

You can't just ask to be treated as sef employed. Use the Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool to find out if you should be classed as employed or self-employed for tax purposes.

Almost certainly not. Are you working through the NHS bank or through an agency? If the former, definitely not. If the latter they may agree but would probably want you to set up a limited company.
