Must have Android Apps?

Interesting thread as my Desire is due to arrive today - very excited as it looks ace :D

Having problems synching my current N95 data with google in preparation, so may spend lots of this evening moving contacts, calendar etc the slow way

The newest one I like is MyPOI (Points Of Interest)

Gets your current location via GPS and lets you mark it on a map with a quick title.

Great for remembering where your car, hotel, restaurant, meeting place etc is when away on a business/break/holiday/somewhere you are not familiar with.

Cheers guys, I'm quite excited by it!!

Will check out some of the recommendations. EmmieJay - Im moving from an N95 as well so if you manage to sync it all up with google I would appreciate a short how 2!

Jim2k - Took a bit of faffing, but I've now sync'd my calendar and contacts with google ready for new phone (which now isn't coming until next week as O2 forgot to tell me it's out of stock ).

Don't think I can post links, but I used Google Sync. The first page has links to set up instructions for different phone manaufacturers. If you don't already have Mail for Exchange you'll need to install that (for free) from Ovi, then follow the instructions to set up the sych profile. For some reason I kept getting incorrect password errors initially, but then today it works :| I'm no techy expert so I'm just happy it's now working, and just have to hold on 'til next week to get to play with the Desire.

Hope that's of some use if you haven't already got sorted. Enjoy your new phone :)

Cheers emmieJay - very useful. Im guessing the fact that O2 have ru n out of stock is the reason my order hasnt progressed yet. Any ideas when the stock is coming in?

I've been told they will have them on Monday (7th) and they should send them straight out, so I'll be complaining if I don't have it by Weds.

Stupid thing is I wouldn't have minded the delay if I'd been told at point of order, but why tell a customer next day delivery without checking you have stock :| Setting customer expectations correctly is so important for reputation.

Ive just been reading the O2 forums and there are plenty of people saying the same as you. I bought online and it said in stock. Never mind a weeks wait wont hurt!

I'm not sure which apps came on it, and I've only had it 2 weeks!
Navigation is possibly my favourite, it's just as good as my Navman sat-nav, and it's free!

Another tip, buy a micro-USB car charger! If you're driving anywhere, even without using Navigation, then it's always nice to top your battery up and mine cost me £4.86 from Tesco :)

Loving it :D

Need to spend some time over the weekend having a play with some of the recommended apps. So far I'm just being drawn towards timewaster games such as ThrottleCopter. Be warned don't download unless you have hours to waste!

Got the nexus one and loving it!

I've downloaded (all free):

Games
Abduction (Doodlejump clone)
Pocket Empires (Be prepared to waste so much time!)
Bonsai Blast
ToonWarz Lite (Just to see what can be done with the phone ;) )

Apps
Adobe Reader
Advanced Task Killer
AndFTP
Wordpress
Barcode Scanner (for all those QR codes :) )
Flashlight
Google Buzz
Google Googles
Google Translate
Twitter
ShapeWriter (free keyboard to swipe your finger to type. Takes time to get used to)

I find the people over at xda developers have lots of useful things going on over there. But alot of it is very techy.

Ive had the desire for over a year now and still love it. Have put CM7 onto it and it runs very nicely indeed although Im getting the dreaded restart whilst using gps onthe car charger. Heat issue I think.

Apps I use lots are:

Teamviewer 6
Moxi Mail
BBC News
World Newspapers
SlideIT - this is the future of touchscreen typing I tell thee!
Google Navigation
Fieldrunners
Handcent SMS
Tapatalk
Torque - cheap blujetooth dongle and full access to cars ECU and fault codes.

Thats the best of what I use regularly.

I was using CM7 too but the battery drain was horrible, GPS was rubbish and it crashed alot, particularly when overclocked. I've downgraded the firmware to a 2.2 ROM and it's working much better.

I've tried lots of different ROMs and the latest nightly builds of CM7 give me everything I want really doesn't crash (unless on charger in phone with GPS) batery could be better but I get a day out of it. Will stick with CM7 until something else crops up to try.

The Iphone apps thread inspired me to seek out the best Android apps. I've got a HTC Desire on the way so would be interested as to what people use regularly for Work and Play.

Games - HD Games like NFS, Asphalt 6, NOVA etc.
App :-

Music - Power AMP (with equalizer), Sound Hound, Tune In Pro.
Navigation :- WisePilot, Google maps.
File managers :- Estrong, Astro.
Launcher (Themes) :- SPB Shell 3D, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher.
Other apps :- News 360, Angry Birds, etc.
Free Msg :- Whozzat
