Moving site from Joomla (PHP) to Umbraco (.NET) - changing server = affect Rankings?

Hi all,

I am considering redesigning my website - which has a lot of authority and very strong rankings - and moving it from Joomla/MySQL to Umbraco/SQL.

This would mean I'd have to change my hosting package with my provider to a miscrosoft server.

Obviously, I would keep the URL structures in tact and slowly transition content changes but does anyone know of any useful resources/guides for doing this from an seo perspective?

Also, has anyone done similar or know if there is a risk of losing rankings substantially?

Thanks,
J.

We're moving our site to a new platform and fortunately all our current links are listed in a .htaccess so it's a simple case of updating all the rewrites and setting up 301s. I hope..

Keep an eye on 404s once you move the site and ensure old important links direct to the new pages and you should be fine.

The way I would attack this change is to add 301 redirect to my htaccess file and redirect ALL the old .php url's to their corresponding .net pages.

This would help the SE's note the PERMANENT link structure change and transfer any link juice from the old to the new.

You could also use apache (linux) to process the old php into the .net but this could get fiddly depending on your in-house skill base and 'may not' help in the indexing process.

Hope this helps.
