AI is only good if the person using it knows to double check what it comes out with
Did you read the article? It was a chatbot providing advice. The judge agreed that you should expect the advice to be reliable. If you need to double check it makes an online chat of any sort pointless.

In fairness Peacecloud said the person using it, which I took to be Air Canada needing to double check what it comes out with?

How is that going to be possible? Unless you have someone monitoring all chats. Which makes the need for a chatbot redundant.

That's the difference between using AI tools to blindly replace humans in the pursuit of profit versus using AI tools to complement productivity with effective controls/measures in place.

The cost of occasionally having to pay out when AI makes a mistake will be small compared with the saving it gains. It's never going to be perfect. Nor are people though. If a human had made that mistake, then it wouldn't even make the news. AI will keep getting better, but people won't.

I was listening to a guy from Octopus Energy the other day, and he said they get better approval ratings from their AI generated letters than they get from the letters humans write. That's possibly because AI are picking up the "standard" or "easy" replies, and the humans have to do the ones that need looking in to more deeply, but it shows the way we're heading.
