Mobile Gaming- do you play?

Hi everyone,

There's been a lot of talk in the press about the rise of mobile gaming, and we are seeing a lot of brands making games to reach their target audiences- for example Barclays with Waterslide etc.

I was just wondering - do many of you play games on your mobile?

hey, I own an iPhone and yes i play alot of games on it. Im a fan of free games, wont really pay more that £3 per game though.

It is a good way to advertise and build brand awareness if the games cause you to someway click on links to a website etc. As long as there is a good reason for the brand's name to be associated with the app then I see it as an effective marketing tool.

I think there are a lot of people like you out there who play mostly free games, especially as there are a lot of good quality ones in the app store. Although we're currently doing some research and are finding that nearly 40% of people have paid for a game on their mobile, which seems surprising!

Yea, I guess that is quite surprising. I can see a large number of people paying for apps in other categories. With the amount of 59p games out there though that figure does make sense.

Im currently considering switching to an android phone as the apps seem to be much cheaper on that platform. It will be hard to turn my back on apple though.

I think the Android market is really taking off for games and apps, and I think it'll be only a matter of time before there will be more apps available on Android. We certainly publish far more games for that platform than iPhone.

I'm not really a fan of mobile games, I'd much rather be playing a game on my PC. Although I can see why alot of people play them, I do sometimes play worms on my phone when I got nothing to do. :D

I don't think it is all that surprising - both Nintendo and Sony have acknowledged that the biggest threat to their markets is Apple.

Apple is probably already the biggest games outlet out there (based on turnover) and its growing every day. It already has the iPhone and iPad out and it is rumoured that future Apple TVs will be able to download and play Apps. So basically they will own the channels to your phone, your mobile computing device and your TV. None of this happens without people putting their hands in their pockets to spend on content.

I class myself as a hard core gamer and loathe these casual games, i find them mind numbing. However I have been known to waste time playing tower defence type games on long train journeys etc.
