Mobile chip and pin devices...

We have a fixed line chip and pin device and have been asked to look into an additional chip and pin but this time a portable one which would be returned to accounts office in the evenings for security.

Having had some costs from various companies together with transaction costs, which would be the better option a portable device or a mobile device? And why?

I've had prices from our own merchant who actually work out more expensive but think it may be easier to go with them instead of starting all over. Not sure how 2 merchant accounts would work.

Hi Lassiecat

I assume you mean a portable as in take it to the customer (at a table for example) rather than a mobile which you can use away from your business premises ?

Depends on how much t/o you do currently, if the second terminal is solely to be used on the premises, then your additional cost should just be the extra terminal rental, you will not need to open a second merchant account.

However if you are planning to use the terminal away from your Business premises, and the additional turnover is less than £ 500 a month, I would go with something like WorldPay Zinc, it is a very good PAYG solution, with a lot lower running cost than a conventional terminal, and has no underlying lease or min monthly charges. If it is more than £ 500 a month then a Mobile terminal with a conventional merchant account would make more sense.

If you would like to PM a little more information I would be happy to provide some indicative quotes, and if you were prepared to consider switching we would be able to offer an improved blended rate and terminal rental across both your merchant accounts, and we might even be able to offer you a single account, dependant on your risk type.

Kind regards

Mark

I expect there would be more than £500 each month.

The second account would need to be mobile as in portable, it can be moved above so not sure which would be best, a Bluetooth device or mobile device using gprs. What are the pros/cons of them?

Our merchant provider has already reduced their processing fees as they got wind we were shopping around but other providors appear to be much cheaper, not sure why! First Data won't budge and further reduce their fees which is disappointing as it would be far easier to go with them for the additional terminal.

Hi Lassiecat

If the terminal is to be used within 100 m of the payment desk (or wherever the receiver unit is located) and you do not have massive radio wave unfriendly features like very thick walls, a Bluetooth terminal would be fine.

A Mobile terminal is really for use where there is no Broadband or PSTN (telephone line) available, so is often used by mobile trades or for shows etc.

I cannot make any promises, but if you PM me a little more info re your business what you sell and your current arrangements I will see if we can help you at all.

I am having trouble getting Worldpay Zinc app to load to my phone. It won't load to my galaxy tab or laptop either. Anyone else had an issue?

Have you checked the WPZ support page on the web to confirm your phone is compatible with the App ?

Same for your Galaxy tablet ?

https://www.worldpayzinc.com/take-s...c&utm_term=worldpay+zinc&utm_campaign=acquire

Not sure that you can install to a laptop, as it is an app not a program, and I would assume the VTG function is based on a web link ?

If it is still failing suggest you contact their support desk

Hi Mark,
yes I have checked and the phone and tablet are both listed. I have spoken to WPZ and they are equally baffled. They have escalated the problem at their end and someone is supposed to call me today to try to see what is happening. I don't know what a 'VTG function' is; my laptop has Bluetooth but of course no phone facility.

Sorry Belinda, VTG is a Virtual Terminal facility and I know with WPZ you get a Virtual terminal as part of the package so I assumed maybe incorrectly it was provided via a web link as normally it is a browser based app.

Only other thing I can suggest might be to check the Android versions you are running on your devices with WPZ, sometimes this can be a factor with apps not installing properly.

Good luck re your dealing with their support, only other suggestion might be to disable your anti virus apps on your devices whilst you download the WPZ app this often works for me where an app is cranky when loading. And then turn then av app back on when you have installed the new app.

Sorry my advice was not more helpful..

I have finally come to the conclusion that my phone is at fault.
I would like to say I had excellent support from WorldPay. They were very keen to help and their tech advice was spot on.
Anyway one new phone later and all is working well.
And thanks too to Mark for your replies.

Hi Belinda

Excellent news, and I am glad to have been of help !

Kind regards
