Hi Everyone.

Just had an idea and cannot figure out the regulatory problem. I would like to take a shipping container, outfit it with some equipment (catering) and place it in a lay by.
I know that I will need a hygiene certification and a street trading license. However, what I am struggling with , is the actual building. Now from one point of view it will be a stationary item, from the other, a mobile unit. What if I place the container on a farmers field, 10ft from the layby? what are the regulations if anyone ever had dealing with such situation?

I once read that if a catering establishment is a specific distance from the road, it has to have other specification and tax rate.

I could not information on this, it is all about permanent structures and hygiene.

any ideas or links would be appreciated.

Have you asked your local council ? I forsee planning permission issues.
IIRC the old lorries and trailers parked in fields away from the road side used as advertising boards all have wheels attached and therefore are "mobile"
The set up you propose does happen there is one on the Chirk bypass. But you really need to ask locally as councils run the system their own way.
