Hi,

we are two directors of a takeaway. Can we both claim mileage (45p a mile) when we travel to and from the business?

Also, if I have supplier providing services- management services and they invoice me from a limited company for services. Can the individual of the limited company claim mileage from my company as an individual not as the company?

As directors, do you mean charge your limited company as employees? Yes, but an employee cannot be paid mileage to and from their normal place of work without incurring a tax liability.

Your supplier can charge whatever they have quoted for their supply. However if your supplier is a limited company you should not pay an individual. You should pay the limited company against their invoice.

    ..

As employees you cant claim tax relief on what is called ordinary commuting ie travel to a permanent workplace.

It will depend on the agreement between your company and the service providers. It's a very unusual way for a company providing services to operate.

Lots of people actually believe that you cannot charge more than 45p Per Mile! - Check that one out the next time you get into a Taxi! You can charge what you like! - But will be taxed on anything over 45p Per Mile!

Is that correct as I thought that you could claim 45p per mile on the first 10,000 miles plus 10p per mile on any subsequent mileage

no it is 45p per mile to 10k then 20p (in a car or van)

    24p motorcycle (any mileage)

    20p bicycle (any mileage)

    https://www.gov.uk/expenses-and-benefits-business-travel-mileage/rules-for-tax

So in my case if using car and bike and i go over 10k combined but not over 10k in the car i ensure the car mileage is all at 45p and anything subsequent is at 24p as it is on all vehicle combined
