Meta tags etc??

Hi I was just wondering if someone could help me figure out and explain to me a little about Meta tags an spider crawling on my site? I do not have a clue in where to start! All help is appreciated!

Meta tags does really help get your site indexed. You either need to submit your url to google and other search engines or get incoming links. But having relevant meta tags, description, keyword etc will help your rankings.

I have something called sitemap set up with google but no how it works so do not know if it is functioning properly? So where would you suggest I start?

A sitemape is just an XML file with all your pages from your site. It helps google find all your pages easier. Best thing to start with is finding the keyword you want be ranked for.

when robots crawls on your site, they'll look for your meta tags and index them to the site. these will make your site visible to search engines, though a good content is needed for it to be listed.

Hi,

The first thing you need to do is see if google has your site in its index. Do a google search for site:www.yoursite.com. If there are results there, then its time to move into optimisation. If not, then you need to post an article on a site which google indexes regularly - i like ecademy. You write a blog on it and google indexes in a couple of mins - and so finds the link to your site.

Optimisation includes writing good keyword rich copy, writing good titles and generating incoming links. You could also submit your site to dmoz.org and yahoo directory (which you have to pay for)

If the site you are referring to is the one in your signature, then you need to remove the Flash home page immediately.
